Sylvia recently celebrated 50 years as the Minister of Music at Emmaus. She is the organist and also directs the Adult and Children’s Choir. She graduated from Longwood College and Virginia Commonwealth University, receiving a Bachelor of Music Education degree and a Master of Education degree in early childhood education. She is married to LeRoy Coates and they have three adult children, two granddaughters and a great granddaughter. She retired after teaching second grade at New Kent Elementary School for 32 years. Praising God through music is a wonderful part of the Christian’s life and worship experience. Sylvia rejoices that she is able to do this with her Christian family at Emmaus.
